FAT
LOSS
Trying
to lose that extra pound, or even shake loose that spare tyre? Every
month we will list tips, cheats and the latest news from the world
of sports and medicine. Stay in touch and we will try to
help you get fit and trim. However, it will take hard
work on your part, and beware, not all of the exercises, and tips
are for everyone. Some people may find the tips here work, others
may think that they are a waste of time, but it is worth a try.
Do
quick fixes work?
For years, with
no evidence of it working, people have tried various machines to
'shake' fat away, such as the massage belt. The idea behind these
machines are that they will shake loose fat deposits around the
butt and stomach, and make them disappear. People try the same thing
now with massage, heat and exercise treatments. Despite hundreds
of studies that PROVE that these methods do not work, people continue
to participate in them. The only way to lose fat is by burning more
calories than you take in. The only way to achieve the 'model' look
is to work harder than you eat. Doing hundreds of sit-ups and press-ups
won't work either, because as long as you have that layer of fat,
your muscles will not show through. The plus point is that a good
diet and the right exercise will work, so get out there and start
training! (Health Central, 24.05.00)
Eat
your shredded wheat!!
Fibre helps
control hunger, and slows the rate of carbohydrate induction into
the blood stream. This is thought to slow the rate at which fat
is deposited, according to at least 5 studies in the past 12 months.
The added bonus to eating fibre is its low calorie property, and
the fact it makes you more regular. The daily recommended dosage
of fibre is 25 to 35 grams a day. So increase that intake of fibre
by eating more fruit and veg, a high fibre breakfast, and more beans
and peas. (EFit.com 31.05.00)
Wine
Drinking May Burn Fat
It
is plainly obvious that alcohol consumption has a deteriorating
effect on your stomach. isn't it?? Dr A Ardevol's studies seem to
indicate otherwise. His studies with wine show that the antioxidant
chemicals, flavanoids are known to speed the breakdown of fat .
The study in Spain, found that the flavanoid procyanidins increase
the speed that fat cells are broken down, and thus assist fat loss.

Airy
Food is filling!
Those
people at the cinema who fill your cup with ice, before adding two
squirts of coke may actually be doing you a favour in terms of fat
loss, according to a recent study by scientists at Penn state university.
They found that when men drank a high volume (air filled) milkshake,
that they ate 12% less calories at mealtime, then when they ate
drank low volume shakes. So next time you are about to complain
about the ice content at the cinema, just smile and say thanks!
